A Candle for a Marine Always a Marine series Book 18 edition by Heather Long Literature Fiction eBooks
Eight years. That was the length of time that separated Zehava Elbaz and Marine Sergeant Isaac Janko. Eight years and the fact that she gave their baby up for adoption. I have read many holiday-themed reunion stories over the years. NOTHING prepared me for the poignant reunion in A Candle for a Marine (Always a Marine). As I wrote this review, I continued to dry my tears. When Isaac joined the Marine Corps, he was ill-prepared to receive the news that his high school girlfriend, Zehava was pregnant. When she reached out to let him know she had bravely decided to place the baby up for adoption, he angrily lashed out at her. That was their final conversation. In the years that followed, Zehava created a community center where the neighborhood's children could have a safe place to stay, while their parents worked. Isaac served our country, in some of the most dangerous places on Earth, while his community proudly kept up with his career and prayed for his safe return. A Candle for a Marine (Always a Marine), found him taking much needed leave and going home to see his family.
Over the eight days of Hanukkah, two beautifully broken, yet incredibly strong characters began the process of forgiveness and healing. Isaac's Nona (grandmother) was his "tough love," advocate who helped him dig through layers of hurt and resentment, to his unresolved feelings about Zehava and their child. Zehava, who built a wall around her heart, opened herself up to the possibility of trusting Isaac, again. Their reunion was deeply emotional, exposing their heartbreak. Layers of pain were peeled away to give a new, adult, dimension to their love. Their sex was steamy, as this was a Heather Long story, after all.
I appreciated that Ms. Long brought back Shannon (from "Her Marine") and Zach (from Retreat Hell! She Just Got Here (1 Night Stand Series) and No Regrets, No Surrender (Always a Marine)) further establishing the interconnectedness of the "Always a Marine" series. A Candle for a Marine (Always a Marine), marked the beginning of a new happily ever after for Zehava and Isaac and I look forward to hearing about them or seeing them in future stories.

A Candle for a Marine Always a Marine series Book 18 edition by Heather Long Literature Fiction eBooks Reviews
Thanks to Heather Long and Decadent for continuing to produce wonderful Marine stories. Each one has a special place in my heart and I have my favorite characters and favorite books, even if they don't make sense to anyone other than myself. As you may have figured out, I am a huge fan of this series, but this one is my favorite. There is something special about this story that hit my heart. I have been intrigued by this story since Heather first sent me the blurbs for the Holiday collection and I was not disappointed. I love that Hanukkah was included in the collection.
As an adoptee, I am usually leery about adoption stories. I am a huge believer in adoption and was glad to see Heather write this. I love Zehava and her understanding of Isaac's anger but I wanted to smack the hell out of Isaac. Luckily, our strong friend Shannon was ready to defend Zehava against Isaac's attitude. While I understood Isaac's feelings, I loved that it took our old friend Zach to point out what Isaac was feeling.
"I thought I was over you."
"You're not." It wasn't a question, because her emotions were so tangled up between the present and the past. She didn't know which feelings belonged where.
"No." He shook his head and dipped his face closer to hers. "And I don't think I want to be."
While there were many parts of this story that *should* have made me cry, this was the only one that caused the tears to actually fall. This story is truly about how love conquers all and forgiveness can lead to complete healing.
Enjoyable, quick read. Hanukkah story is refreshing to find during holiday season. Sweet, sensual romance with a little different than usual flavor.
Really liked thus book!!!!
Loved it. So sweet and simple. A nice Chanukkah story. )
I love Heather Long's Always a Marine series, and this holiday treet is guarenteed to warm your heart. Just in time for the holidays.
Really good story.. I loved loved the story line & how it developed ..... but the ending was disappointing.. It just ended.. No epilogue or anything like that... So you're just left wondering.. I mean don't get me wrong the story ends on a nice note, BUT it is nice when you get that little epilogue at the end to finish up the story!! It's needed with a lot of Heather Longs stories in my opinion. I love her writing but sometimes it's just needed Still a great, sweet story
I hated this. If it had been my first read from this author i would never buy anything else written by her. There are certainly valid reasons for adoption. I couldn't find any here. It upsets me to see inconvenience being the reason to reject a child, and that is what this came down to.
